The path to action?

After trying to be altruistic in 2022 ending-up realising how difficult it is and how discipline one needs to be; 2023 was focused on being back on reality to take the lessons from the few setbacks experienced. I was not expecting that year though to be that real!

The year was challenging in many aspects and rewarding in many others. It finally brought clarity on where I want to go, what I want develop and who I want to surround myself with.

The motto is to be able to have the courage to be who I am and use my skills to outline, explain, inspire, and act on developing businesses and technologies that help me and humanity flourish.

The main lessons learned for the past 5 years were summarized by the following points:

  • Live your life first, slow down, and take time in Nature
  • Be Present, always
  • Raise your standards and be disciplined
  • Focus, drop things that are not important, and learn to say “NO”
  • Be Assertive, Transparent about your wants and needs
  • Surround yourself with positive people and avoid toxic people
  • Balance all aspects of your life

I obviously didn’t do very well against those bullet points and tried to understand why. Lacking focus, spending too much time outside of my purpose and trying to convince people was clearly one of the culprits.

2023 had a profound impact on my thinking:

  • I discovered Alfred Adler and understood that I don’t need to be loved by everyone but need to understand how I contribute to others.
  • I discovered the importance of being focused and being true to your wants and needs. As such I reset my professional life
  • I understood that innovation is part of me and obviously I integrated AI in everything I do (using ChatGPT, ElevenLabs, DALL-E and Midjourney mostly)
  • I also made a point to spend more time with people from different cultures thinking about life all driven by grit and willingness to act rather than only think and come up with theories.

More importantly I understood that I subscribe to the ‘unconstrained vision’ of the World and believe in solutions, truth and transparency rather than spending hours in debates about COP28.

In 2023, I trained and met more than 500 executives through the different organizations that trust me (INSEAD, CEDEP, SKEMA, EDHEC, IUM) and will continue to do so in 2024.

I will now dedicate my time in having the largest impacts possible to help build projects that are meant to increase positive impacts, reduce negative impacts, use data to provide greater transparency and insights on what’s truly happening, trust innovation and more importantly are committed to move.

The lessons for 2023 being:

  • Focus on what you can control and try to understand what you can’t control
  • Choose your environment.
  • Don’t stay in your head, confront your ideas and have the courage to speak up.
  • Be clear on what you want.
  • Do the hard things.

2024 will be about doing! What’s driving my motivation?

  • Many stakeholders have now realized after COP28 that the transition is holistic and needs to involve many stakeholders as well as innovation (50% of the technologies required for the transition don’t exist yet)
  • The implementation of CSRD that will help companies reconsider their value chain and shed lights on data that were not managed and now need to be compared.
  • The topic of biodiversity that will help reconsider the impacts on the Living of our activities.
  • The topic of impact becoming mainstream

My routine will be quite easy, it will aim at bringing flow and discipline:

  • Increase meditation time and read the 7 habits again
  • Start the day by focusing on the most important goals
  • Journal (thanks Tom!) and reflect on the Daily Stoic
  • Keep a peer group to be open and transparent about the struggles

Vive 2024, a French year they say :)
